One Layer Stencil Card

Playing along this week with three challenges, attempting a card that uses only 1/3 of the card, uses stencils, and features birds. All in one layer. Whew! Didn't sound too difficult when I started but I was definitely challenged by this one, and that's a good thing!

I began with my stencils, Altenew's Grid Stencil and Watercolor Bouquet.

First, I blended Distress Oxide ink in Seedless Preserves on one section of the stencil, then overlayed the second section and blended Wilted Violet on top. When that was pretty much dry, I used the Grid stencil to blend a little Iced Spruce over the top. I inked up the hummingbird on Penny Black's Sweet Visit stamp using Versafine Onyx for the detail and stamped that in the right corner. Once that was dry I added just the tiniest touch of color to my birdie with my Prismacolor pencils.

My 1/3 card real estate was getting a little crowded I feared, but there was room for a small sentiment, which I stamped once again with the Versafine. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things.

And there you have it, my one-layer, stenciled card with a bird using 1/3 of the card! The hardest part was the one-layer requirement. I so wanted to add some embellishments or diecuts! Keeping it simple, though, is a great discipline and all that white space is relaxing.
